Four Star designated a HeartSafe workplace
Dothan, AL -- Four Star Freightliner's Dothan location has earned the HeartSafe workplace designation, making it one of the first in the area. As a HeartSafe workplace, Four Star Freightliner, led by company safety director Craig Mathis, is now certified by the Dothan Fire Department for having a percentage of its employees trained in hands-only CPR and having automated external defibrillators (ADEs) on site.
By being a HeartSafe workplace, Four Star is focused on four lifesaving elements, which will improve the survival of employees and customers from sudden cardiac arrest. Those lifesaving elements include:
- Early Identification
- Early CPR
- Early Defibrillation
- EMS Intervention
Four Star Freightliner in Dothan employs approximately 50 people. It is located at 1507 Reeves Street. The HeartSafe program is a community-wide initiative led by the Southeast Health Foundation to reduce the numbers of sudden cardiac arrest deaths in the area. According to Southeast Health, sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming more than 300,000 lives annually. It generally occurs without warning and once the victim collapses, he or she has about five minutes to receive an AED shock to reset the heart's rhythm. Without the AED shock, the chance of surviving decreases by 10 percent every minute that life-saving measures are not initiated.
