Four Star Freightliner Loans Vehicle To College Diesel Mechanics Program
Four Star Freightliner has further invested in its partnership with Ingram State Technical College (ISTC) located in Deatsville, Ala. by providing a loaner truck so that the students, consisting primarily of incarcerated adults, have the opportunity to train on current technology and equipment.
Four Star Freightliner sent its training manager, David Carroll, to provide additional instruction along with a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia.
“We appreciate Four Star Freightliner sending a new day cab truck to our campus so that students could get a first-hand look at the technology," said Randy Hull, diesel mechanics instructor at ISTC. "Mr. Carroll provided the students with information on trends in the heavy equipment industry and having the truck right there close at hand really helped reinforce what they were learning.”
For Carroll, the visit to ISTC was about more than just providing technical instruction to the students who were looking for reassurance that their background would not keep them from being hired.
"I wanted them to know that they controlled their own future," said Carroll. "They are the only ones that could hold themselves back in this industry. If they strive to be better and to take pride in their work they could achieve the goal to be one of the best."
“We know the Freightliner brand is a leader in innovation, with an excellent training program," said Hull. "To have Four Star share Mr. Carroll’s expertise with our students was an outstanding example of industry partnering with education. My guys will be talking about this experience for a long time.”
Four Star Freightliner partnered with ISTC in 2014 and has been providing the school's diesel mechanics class with equipment such as transmissions and engines.
