Shining Star: Monica Watson, Dothan Parts Manager

Four Star Freightliner prides itself on having low turnover and creating opportunities for employees to grow within the company. The keys to promotion include hard work, initiative, dedication, and a good attitude to name a few. 

When Monica Watson started with Four Star Freightliner, she didn't imagine that she would eventually become one of our company's top leaders. She invested in herself, and it paid off. You can do the same. Monica shares her story about how she climbed the ladder of success.  

“When I started working in the parts warehouse in 2002, I knew I wanted to do more than just be in the warehouse. I worked on Saturdays with the counter guys to learn how to look up parts and just learn more about trucks. 

Within 8 months of being in the warehouse, I moved to the front counter. Once I got to the counter, I asked the parts manager Tommy Davenport to help me learn how to post parts and place orders. I did what I could to help him out. 

After a couple of years, I was traveling around to the other locations helping train new employees in the parts department. I worked closely with Warranty and learned how to enter Freightliner, Detroit and Allison claims. I worked half a day in parts and half a day in Warranty. I have also had the opportunity to work in the parts side of accounting. I matched up the invoices and credits for all the locations. 

I left Four Star Freightliner for about a year and a half but was very thankful to have the opportunity to come back. When I returned, I worked as an OPS (outside parts salesperson). I did that for about a year until I went back to helping with the paperwork. But that isn't what I wanted to do. I had always wanted to be a manager from day one. 

Tommy was able to get me back on the counter so I could learn more about managing people. He helped me finally reach my goal in December 2019 when I was named Parts Manager. 

Since then, I was honored to have been chosen for the company's first Leadership Development Class. I really enjoy having such a great team that supports each other. I have always been raised that if you put your mind to something and work hard for it then you can accomplish anything. I don’t know what the future holds, but I know I can do it if I just try.”
